How to take eye catching photos of people
- Photographs of people can be made stronger by having the eyes
about 4/5th s up the frame. Do not be too worried about cropping
tops of the heads off, it's all about character and expression.
See example 3
- Small images need to be bold and simple, do not try to put too much in a small picture. Use space for the subject to look into
- Use a clean background that does not camouflage the subject.
- Use symbolism ie a gardener might hold a spade. See example 3
- Interaction, expression or gesture can add extra dynamics. See example 3
- Adding colour to picture will help to lift the picture, ie red jumper, car or flowers See Example 1 and 2
Simple ways to make photos look better after you've taken them
- Callibrate your monitor using the colour management wizard in Control Panel-Systems / or Adobe Gamma. This will make sure that any correction work to photos will be within the standard parameters.
- When using a large image file and reducing it to the smaller web size version, the image will tend to go out of focus, so use the sharpen filter to refocus it. See Example 1 and 2
- All website photos should be 72dpi, and the larger the image the longer it will take to down load, so I would recommend that the longest dimension should be no more than 200 pixels. When saving always go "Save as" and compress the image to about 5, any more and the quality will diminish.
- The smaller the image the brighter it needs to be, so adjust image using brightness and contrast levels, but don't over do it!
