"We left because we didn't want to die. There were 25 people in one canoe, towed by other boats, so we had no room to carry anything with us. It was 24 hours without food taking water to drink from the river. The boats were sinking down so there was only a few inches above the water. We have been here now for 15 days. It took us 24 hours to reach the mouth of the river and then we went in larger boats to the town of Turbo. We are still afraid to go to town. It could be dangerous for people like us to go. We want you to let people know what is happening."
